Force and motion

Force and Motion

Review of Lesson 8

Provide each pair of students with a Force Machine. Help them develop these conclusions from Experiment A:

  1. There were two variables: the force exerted through the Force Probe, and the distance from the fixed pivot (input arm).

  2. These variables were measured as follows:

    • Force was measured by the buckling of the Force Probe. More buckling meant more force was applied. Students did not know how much force was applied.
    • Distance was measured by the position on the lever arm where the force was applied. Note: the distance from the fixed pivot (the input arm) was 2” less than the number on the lever.
  3. There was a number to measure distance, but no number for force.
